You can now use Google’s Gemini AI to instantly generate a narrative, podcast-style summary of any PDF stored in your Drive, transforming long documents into digestible audio content.

How the Audio Overview Works

This feature streamlines the research and review process, allowing you to consume large amounts of information without having to stare at the screen.

Access: When you open a PDF file in Google Drive on the web, a dedicated button to “Generate audio overview” will appear. You can also interact with the Gemini sidebar to initiate the request.
Generation: Based on the length and complexity of the document, Drive’s AI will generate an audio summary that typically runs between two and ten minutes long.
Storage: The resulting audio overview is saved as a separate audio file directly within your Google Drive, making it easy to access and play later in a new tab, much like any other file.

Limitations and Requirements

While the feature is immensely powerful, Google has limited its initial rollout to commercial and premium users.
